Tarifit is a variety of the Rifian dialect of the Berber (or Amazigh) languages, primarily spoken by the Rif people in the northern part of Morocco, specifically in the Rif Mountains region. It is one of the major dialects of the Berber language family, alongside Tashelhit (spoken in the south) and Kabyle (spoken in Algeria).

Tarifit is used as a first language by the indigenous Berber-speaking population in this region, and it plays a significant role in the local culture and identity. Like other Berber languages, Tarifit is traditionally spoken and was historically written using the Tifinagh script, although nowadays the Latin alphabet is more commonly used for writing.

The language, like other Berber dialects, has influenced and been influenced by Arabic and Spanish due to historical interactions with those cultures.
